This course will explore Eris in your personal chart and the charts of the other class members. We'll look at the house placement and the aspects and research our transits as we understand how to embrace our truth-telling activist nature.
Eris encourages us to look at ourselves in an uncompromising way, and to be inclusive in our world view. We tend to fool ourselves and overlook our shortcomings just to get through each day, but Eris draws her strength from the uncompromising nature of her understanding. It’s all valuable to her and we’ll only be complete and embrace our full power when we accept our multi-faceted nature.
Similarly in the outer world, Eris wants everyone to be valued and included. And she has no time for judgement or comparison. So, she teaches us to maintain a steady spirit through all crises by being open to the promptings of love and sympathy. Our lives go through different phases, but through compassion we are able to support ourselves and one another through any challenge. And by facing the challenge we learn to transmute that effort into love.
In mythology Eris was the warrior sister of Mars, and they were always in battle together. And we know that Pluto is traditionally the higher octave of Mars, so we can look at Eris as the higher octave of Pluto. She steps up his transformative energy to a fierce grace through which everything in our lives is opened to the light.
So, Eris can encourage us to rise to any challenge and to stand our ground until we are the last warrior on the battlefield. And while this tenaciousness can be a great benefit, we don’t always need to slay everyone to make our point. So, we need to learn to understand when we have already won, and when to leave well enough alone.
If we are still at the personal planet level of consciousness however and sensing this influence unconsciously, we are likely to get caught up in these battles, or actively seek them out by mouthing off, whether this is appropriate or not. At this level she is teaching us to stop being fooled, or to stop fooling ourselves.
These confrontations shine light on parts of ourselves that we have denied or pushed into the unconscious, or just taken for granted. We need discord to grow. It’s only in the to-and-fro of opposing points of view that change occurs. Eris doesn’t really cause trouble she just shines a light on the need for change by provoking our natural reactions, so we can see where they lead.
So, at the personal planet level, she is likely also encouraging us to be competitive, and to take any advantage when we can, because ‘everyone else does!’. When we buy into the rampant greed and selfishness of the capitalist system, it encourages us that there is no other way. That there is only the rat race, so we join it with Eris’s whole-heartedness.
Or we might go to any lengths to be included in some enterprise or social group, so we compromise ourselves in the process. Or we could be unable to compromise and so not be allowed to participate. As a result, we may feel alienated and excluded from meaningful social interaction.
As we adopt a more spiritual approach however, we understand that our strife can be delt with by accepting opposing points of view. And that without strife, we can live in harmony. It’s when we see the opposing view as a challenge to our own view, that it is a problem. To accept an opposing view, we have to grow spiritually, so that our “belief” is not challenged by a “lack of the same belief” in another.
At this spiritual level she enables us to see clearly without preconceptions, and helps us keep body and mind in harmony so that health and happiness prevails. The hanky-panky that we indulged in at the unconscious level, is clearly off limits now that we see our lives in a higher light.
And at the spiritually evolved level we understand her fierce grace for the transmuted love that it is. We understand that it is through engaging and doing the work, that this effort is transmuted into love. And this gives us a gentle power that we can bring to bear in our lives, a gentle power which however rises to meet the needs of any challenge.
When we embrace her fierce grace, she brings a sacred wisdom into our lives. This may manifest as a spirit guide who can help us with sacred knowledge. Or as a connection to our inner guide, the part of us that knows where we are in our karmic & dharmic dance, and what is best in each situation.
At this level we become a truth-telling trickster, able to get our message through by crafting it perfectly for each person. We value everyone as they are, accepting everything and neither comparing nor judging. And we can see what they each need to be told and also what they can accept, and so can communicate with each person effectively.

This course mixes webinars, blog-posted assignments and live Zoom Q&As, so you can attend from anywhere in the world.
We start with a live Welcome Q&A and we will explore Eris's House position in the first fortnight, her aspects in the second fortnight and transits in the third. Each fortnight will include an instructional webinar, an investigative assignment based on your personal chart and a live 2 hour Zoom Q&A session.
Assignments will be posted on a private forum so we can learn from, and comment on, posts from our fellow course members. And the live Q&A sessions will be recorded so you can pick up classes you miss.
