This course will explore Ixion in your personal chart and the charts of the other class members.
Ixion is the wild child in each of us that just wants to satisfy our personal passions and is constantly asking ‘Are the rules we’re playing by the right ones?’. We need this energy now in our lives because so much is changing, and the old structures are no longer working. Ixion gives us the passion to push the envelope and ask for forgiveness afterwards, rather than permission before.
In myth he has no sense of right or wrong and he lacks boundaries, but he has a joy in life and an inventiveness. So in our lives he gives us the strength to follow our bliss, even if it means taking the tiger by the tail and creating change. We can do this secure in the knowledge that we have to break some eggs in order to make an omelette.
To enable this energy in our lives, we need to own the bad girl or bad boy inside us. Society and our upbringing have labelled certain things or actions as bad, to guide us away from them. Mostly they are not inherently bad, just repressed and labelled bad. So the bad boy or girl inside is like being ourselves without these inhibitions.
The secret to releasing these inhibitions is being sensitive to the unspoken agreements in our relationships. Then we will know how far we can go in each interaction. We have unspoken agreements with everyone, even when we’re passing people on the sidewalk, we unconsciously agree not to touch them or look in their eyes. But these agreements are actually different for everyone, and the grey area between our inhibitions and the unspoken agreements is Ixion’s play-space.
At the personal planet level of consciousness this energy compulsively urges us disregard boundaries and take what we want when we want it, without regard to others. This is obviously going to lead us into trouble, but in the passion of the moment we overlook that. At this level his action is likely to involve broken promises and retribution, leading to an outcast, outlaw status.
Once outcast we may receive a second chance and we have to embrace that opportunity and learn from our past experience so we don’t repeat our mistakes. However at this level there is the danger that second chances will be wasted through the arousal of base passions. So, at the unconscious level he encourages us to try and get what we want without regard for others, or for norms, and to waste any second chances we may receive.
Once we’re on the spiritual path however, Ixion represents a passionate spiritual mission, which may involve a violation of existing customs and a resulting catharsis, followed by opportunities for a second chance. At this level, we can embrace the freedom to be ourselves, to forgive our miss-steps and learn from our mistakes.
As we develop spiritually, Ixion gives us the strength to pursue our spiritual passion… which is what we need to pursue a personal spiritual path in this world, a path which will likely start by accepting our passionate nature. At this level he represents a passionate lawless energy with an ability to bend the rules to get things done and learn from experience.
And at the spiritually evolved level he offers us the opportunity to define our own rules and live life on our own terms, while respecting the implicit agreements in our relationships and transmuting our base emotions. At this level, Ixion is passionate and spiritual, and able to maintain a personal spiritual path… The myth’s all about a passionate personal mission and, with the orbital resonance with Neptune, at the more enlightened level this can become a spiritual mission, where personal passions can become spiritual paths.
Where Neptune’s spirituality is nebulous, Ixion takes that energy and focusses it in a personal spiritual mission which is not afraid to experience both the dark and light sides and go beyond the norms. We need a strong internal passion to guide us beyond the traditional ideas that are crumbling around us in these years. Our world and our place in it are changing so fast that the old rules don’t work effectively anymore and we each need to find the passion to chart our own course into the future.
This is what Ixion can help us to do. He can foster an independence of spirit and a passionate mission. And at the spiritual level this can serve as an evolutionary impulse to the wider society because it charts a new approach which others can follow. This is the blessing of Ixion.

This course mixes webinars, blog-posted assignments and live Zoom Q&As, so you can attend from anywhere in the world.
We start with a live Welcome Q&A and we will explore Ixion's House position in the first fortnight, his aspects in the second fortnight and transits in the third. Each fortnight will include an instructional webinar, an investigative assignment based on your personal chart and a live 2 hour Zoom Q&A session.
Assignments will be posted on a private forum so we can learn from and comment on posts from our fellow course members. And the Q&A sessions will be recorded so you can pick up classes you miss live.
