Full Moon eclipse conjunct Gonggong

The Sun and Mercury are newly in Virgo and they will be conjunct ain a couple of days during the Full Moon eclipse. This is the midpoint of the Mercury direct cycle, where we are strongly motivated to express our point of view, but we might find that our view could be a little too personally focussed for our own good - we might not have the perspective on our ideas to bring them across successfully. And the eclipse tells us that there will also be an emotional component which is hidden or unrecognised. This emotionality will be accentuated because the Moon will be conjunct Gonggong, our new planet of empathy consciousness, at 6 degrees of Pisces.
I'll tease out how to work with this emotionality in a moment, but first, as we approach the eclipse, both the Sun and Mercury are sextile Haumea, our new planet of unity consciousness at 3 degrees of Scorpio. Haumea is the great Hawaiian mother goddess — volcanic, generative, endlessly renewing — and in astrological terms she is our planet of rebirth, the higher octave of Neptune. Where Neptune opens the psyche, Haumea deepens that opening into genuine felt connection with the oneness of all life. She does this not through solemnity but through the magic of being alive in any given moment — the unexpected delight, the spontaneous recognition, the sense of wonder that reminds us we belong to something infinitely larger than our personal concerns.
The sextile is an aspect of flowing opportunity. It does not demand; it offers. And what the Sun and Mercury sextile to Haumea is offering right now, as we move into the eclipse week, is a genuine renewal of both our vitality and our thinking. The Sun sextile Haumea is recharging our will and our sense of self with Haumea's regenerative fire — reminding us, at exactly the moment when the eclipse is asking us to shed a layer and begin again, that renewal is actually our natural state. We do not have to engineer it or force it. We simply have to be willing to let the old form go, as Haumea has always done in her myth, cycling through life as a young woman again and again, never mistaking any one form for the final one.
Mercury sextile Haumea is doing something equally welcome: it is asking our ideas and communications to be touched by Haumea's psychic unity consciousness. At the midpoint of the Mercury cycle, when we are especially eager to get our thinking out into the world, this sextile is quietly offering to lift our mental activity above the purely personal and connect it to something more resonant, more genuinely shared. The ideas that arrive in these days before the eclipse may carry more depth and more collective relevance than usual. Pay attention to them. Note them down. The Virgo Mercury wants to analyse and communicate; Haumea is supplying the material worth communicating — not just data, but an alive and connected understanding.
For those not yet consciously working with Haumea's energy, this sextile may feel like a pleasant but slightly inexplicable sense of possibility — moments where connections seem to fall into place a little more easily than usual, where creative ideas arrive with a freshness that seems to come from somewhere beyond ordinary thinking, or where a conversation unexpectedly touches something genuinely meaningful. These are Haumea's doorways. The invitation, even without a conscious understanding of what she represents, is simply to walk through them with curiosity rather than explaining them away.
For those on the spiritual path, this sextile in the days before the eclipse is a beautifully timed invitation to connect with your soul family. This is one of Haumea's most distinctive teachings: that the family we truly belong to is not necessarily the one we were born into, but the one formed by our collisions with reality — the souls who have turned up at the significant junctures of our lives, often unexpectedly, and whose presence has catalysed our growth or recognised our truth when the ordinary social world did not. Something emotional will be present during this eclipse that we did not fully see coming, and Gonggong is right there in the thick of it.
At the spiritual level, this Gonggong conjunction with the eclipse Moon can actually deepen and enrich the soul family connections that the Haumea sextiles have been preparing. Gonggong in his most evolved expression is an empathic wizard — enabling us to lift ourselves above our personal emotional weather and genuinely feel into the people around us, sensing what is most alive in each connection and responding in a way that shifts the energy between them. With the Full Moon eclipse amplifying the emotional field and Gonggong present in it, we have real capacity to feel what our soul family members are carrying right now, and to meet them with genuine empathy rather than projection.
The key, as always with Gonggong, is channelling rather than damming. The emotional energy that this eclipse and this Gonggong conjunction is stirring up needs to move. If we try to hold it back, everything builds pressure behind the wall. If we release it indiscriminately, we flood without direction and leave a mess. The invitation is to find a live application for what we are feeling — to let the emotional sensitivity become an act of genuine presence with the people in front of us, or a creative expression, or a reaching out to someone in our soul family who might need exactly what we have to offer right now.
You might find in the hours around the eclipse — 4.18am GMT on Friday 28th — that you are unusually perceptive. You might be picking up on things being felt but not said, sensing the undercurrents in relationships with more clarity than usual, or experiencing moments of emotional recognition with others that feel larger than the immediate situation warrants. Trust these perceptions. Gonggong is working with the eclipse to surface what has been hidden, and at the spiritual level this is not overwhelming but illuminating — likely a watershed moment where one genuine release of empathic connection opens a whole flow of understanding downstream in the relationship.
This is the invitation of this eclipse week in its fullness: Our will and our communication renewed and reconnected to our soul family by Haumea's unity consciousness, and our emotions plunging into Gonggong's empathic waters to feel what that family is truly made of.
