Uranus square Gonggong
Today's New Moon eclipse in Leo is a new beginning in bravely getting ourselves, our products, or our services, out into the world in some way. We'll be in an eclipse season, however, through until the the Full Moon eclipse at the end of the month, and something is always hidden at this time, so be sensitive to the unseen to facilitate the process of getting yourself out in this new way.
And I hope you are enjoying the Venus trine Uranus which is current for the next couple of days. This is a time to be more intuitive in our values and relationships, which will obviously help with the New Moon birthing process. Both these planets are also aspecting Gonggong, our new planet of empathy consciousness, at 6 degrees of Pisces. Venus is in a fated inconjunct, while Uranus is in a very close square. So let's look at what Gonggong is adding to this already charged and exciting sky.
Gonggong is a planet of the ocean depths — compassionate, sensitive, and profoundly empathic at his most evolved. In Pisces, which is itself the sign of the deep waters, his invitation to us is to lift ourselves above our personal emotional weather and participate in the marketplace of life from a place of genuine feeling for those around us, rather than just our own needs and reactions. He is, at his highest expression, what we might call an empathic wizard — enabling us to feel into the people we are interacting with, understand the game from their side, and respond in a way that actually shifts the energy between them for the better.
With Venus now in fated inconjunct to Gonggong, there is a subtle but real adjustment being asked of us in our relationships and values. The inconjunct doesn't force a crisis, but it creates a persistent, low-level friction — a sense that our relational instincts and Gonggong's deeper empathic calling are not quite speaking the same language. Venus wants ease, beauty, and connection. Gonggong is asking whether those connections are genuinely empathic or whether they are still filtered through our own emotional preferences. The fated quality of the inconjunct suggests this adjustment is not accidental — it is part of the eclipse portal's invitation to birth ourselves anew in our relationships as much as in our outer presentation to the world. The square from Uranus to Gonggong is the bigger and longer term story here, and it deserves our full attention. Squares bring pressure, challenge, and the friction that produces genuine growth. And Uranus, as we know, is the planet of sudden awakening, radical innovation, and liberation from whatever has become too fixed. When Uranus squares Gonggong over this extended period, we are collectively being pressed to upgrade and electrify our empathy — to move it out of its comfortable, habitual channels and into something more alive, more responsive, and more genuinely attuned to the people and communities around us.
When we are unconscious of Gonggong's energy, however, we might find this Uranus square to be quite destabilising. At this level Gonggong encourages us to indulge our emotional power rather than lift it, so we can easily tip into fits of emotional reactivity that feel entirely justified in the moment but leave us drained and ashamed afterward. The Uranus square adds a volatility and unpredictability to this: our emotional outbursts arrive suddenly, seemingly from nowhere, and their intensity can surprise even us. We might also find ourselves swinging between the desperate wish for closeness and the equally desperate impulse to use aloofness to protect ourselves — a push-pull that Uranus's erratic energy can amplify into genuine chaos in our closest relationships.
Our assumptions are particularly important to examine during this transit. Gonggong at the unconscious level can generate assumptions about other people's feelings and motivations that have simply not been checked against reality for some time. Uranus in square is the universe's way of shocking those stale assumptions into visibility — suddenly the picture we had of a relationship or a community does not match what we are actually experiencing, and the gap demands our attention.
For those of us already on the spiritual path, this Uranus square Gonggong is a genuine and rather exciting evolutionary pressure. Uranus is not content to leave our empathy as a personal, domestic, comfortable affair. He is electrifying it, breaking it loose from its familiar boundaries, and asking it to expand. Gonggong at the spiritual level teaches us that we live in a symbiotic relationship with the others in our lives — that our energy and theirs can be pooled, channelled, and directed toward collective aims that none of us could achieve alone. Uranus in square is pushing that understanding outward, beyond our immediate circle, into a broader and more innovatively conceived sense of who our community actually is.
This is also a period in which Gonggong's core challenge becomes particularly vivid: the challenge of channelling rather than damming. When we are emotionally overwhelmed — and a Uranus square to Gonggong can generate genuine waves of feeling from unexpected directions — the temptation is to build a dam and hold everything back, or alternatively to release it all at once in ways that are not useful. Neither works. Trust these flashes. Uranus is providing the voltage; Gonggong is providing the empathic signal. Together they have the potential to make you a more present, more responsive, and more genuinely useful presence in the emotional life of the people around you.

This is empathy as a spiritual practice, and it is one of the most powerful tools available to us for navigating the new beginning that this Leo eclipse is initiating.

So I encourage you to let Uranus's lightning find its way through Gonggong's deep waters. The result, when it flows, is something genuinely illuminating.
