The Astrology of Haumea

This is the first of a series of textbooks on the astrology of the new dwarf planets, based on the research at the Dwarf Planet University.

Probably the most valuable section is the house interpretations, looking at how Haumea manifests in our daily lives with example case studies.

There is also a workbook to locate and on-board this new energy in your chart. And a section introducing each of the dwarf planets to put Haumea in context.

Mercury trine Ceres

Writer: AlanAlan

I hope you are enjoying today's Mercury sextile Neptune. Our ideas and communication are flowing with our vision, so now is the time to reach out and make contacts which can enable our dreams.

Mercury is also closely conjunct Sedna on the cusp of Gemini, so we may be talking or thinking about our heritage, or about what we really want to do on a soul level. However, we have to be consciously honouring our spiritual destiny to connect with that soul level, and if we're not, we might experience a crisis in our communication, which is Sedna's way of bringing us back to the spiritual path.

Mercury and Sedna are also in a close grand trine with Pluto and Ceres, so we have the power to make change in our lives when we are sensitive to the give and take of love that enables abundance in our lives.

And finally, Ceres is also closely bi-quintile the North Node and semi-square Mars. So we have a challenge to act on this love-based approach. And when we can achieve this, it assists our destiny at a deep evolutionary level.

Ceres is our only inner dwarf planet, and these aspects suggest that she is the key to understanding our vision and facilitating our soul based ideas at this time. Ceres orbits between Mars and Jupiter, so she mediates between our assertive efforts and the luck and opportunity we find around us. She does this through a give and take of love which is what nurtures us and keeps us alive in this earthly realm.

The Planet Ceres

Ceres was the first of the dwarf planets to be discovered, but she was misunderstood as an asteroid for 200 years, so that tells you a lot about her relationship with power, and also about how she shows up in our lives.

The asteroids are small objects that orbit between Mars and Jupiter, whereas the dwarf planets are planet-sized and for the most part they orbit out beyond Neptune. Ceres is the exception because she orbits between Mars and Jupiter, so she is the only personal dwarf planet. As such, she is part of our world, and so she gives us a stepping-stone or a lens on the others who are more distant and ethereal.

Ceres is a baby planet. She is actually the only planetary embryo left in the inner solar system. Essentially she is a ball of water, with a skin of matter, so she has an internal ocean. So she is the planet of nurturing and of life. And she talks about early development and the growth process and not taking things for granted.

In our charts, she shows how we feel nurtured and how we can best nurture others, providing love and comfort. And she shows how well we go with the flow. She can represent either a spiritual starvation, or a sense of peace and beauty in the truth of the physical world that surrounds us. And she is frequently about a change in the balance of power.

Difficult aspects show challenges to our ability to feel safe and show us areas where we need to honour the rhythms of nature and to feed and nourish ourselves. And because of her association with loss, compromise, rage and grief, she can also bring crises where we must give in and surrender, often releasing deep emotion.

“I have been sensing a reciprocity in my study of the dwarf planets. As I shift focus and embrace each of their unique energies, I am in turn rewarded by a richer understanding of myself and the world in which we live.”
