The Astrology of Haumea

This is the first of a series of textbooks on the astrology of the new dwarf planets, based on the research at the Dwarf Planet University.

Probably the most valuable section is the house interpretations, looking at how Haumea manifests in our daily lives with example case studies.

There is also a workbook to locate and on-board this new energy in your chart. And a section introducing each of the dwarf planets to put Haumea in context.

Pluto quintile Leleakuhonua

Saturn is stationary retrograde in the sky, so the expansion in the structure of our lives that has been possible over the last few months, is now turning into a refinement of that structure. Saturn's conjunction to Neptune, also retrograde, is likely to mean that some bits of our structure are dissolving, and we'll need to be resourceful to plug the gaps that may be appearing.

Helping us with this process we have Pluto quintile Leleakuhonua, our new planet of reflected-soul consciousness, at 14 degrees of Aries. Pluto dissolves our ego so that we are able to connect with the divine and that's exactly what we can do with the quintile to Leleakuhonua. By trusting in your instincts and being open to new ways of perceiving, you can connect with a unified soul-field and develop your multidimensional consciousness.

The Sabian Symbol for the discovery degree of Leleakuhonua, 7 degrees Aries, is A man successfully expressing himself in two realms at once. According to James Burgess this is about “Living both sides of each situation and waking up to life’s inherent polarities and possibilities... In order for us to look at both sides of a situation, it requires us to develop 'reflective self-consciousness'. In other words, we need the ability to notice ourselves as if through somebody else's eyes."

You likely haven't heard much of Leleakuhonua to date, but this is the new planet which is replacing Sedna as the outer limit of our solar system. Where Sedna has an orbit of 11,406 years, Leleakuhonua has an orbit three times as long, at around 33,000 years. Sedna speaks of our spiritual destiny and all the experiences we have to go through to get to that destiny. And, because the planets become more spiritual the further out we go, Leleakuhonua steps Sedna’s soul consciousness up to become a unified soul-field, where, at the top level, we can see our soul reflected in the other souls in our lives.

Leleakuhonua is our new planet in the curriculum this year at the Uni, and I've been leading a research project through NCGR over the past few months to find the astrological meaning. This is the first planet to be researched collectively by a group of astrologers, so this also speaks to the soul-field connection of the planet. Here's a look from inside our process using first principals, on what the current transiting quintile between Pluto and Leleakuhonua means for us.

The planet is named after a flock of migratory Kolea birds from the Hawaiian creation chant. Birds are spirit beings, so Leleakuhonua is talking about a spirit source or a soul source. The Kolea fly for days each year, migrating to and from Hawaii. To accomplish this, half their brain sleeps, while the other half keeps flying. So Leleakuhonua is talking about the huge missions we have to undertake to make a change in our environment so that we can better sustain ourselves, and the strategies that can maintain this effort.

The quintile between Pluto and Leleakuhonua has been within a 1 degree orb since the beginning of July, it will be exact on the 19th August and go out of orb at the beginning of December. So these next four months will be a good time to step back and take the long view of what you are doing with your life. Pluto's about transformation and empowerment and the quintile presents an opportunity to refine our strategies to maintain the big migratory effort we are involved in.

Here's how Lisa Hagenbuch from the NCGR research project sees it: "We are going through a massive shift as humans, a metamorphosis. In the past, our souls had to experience mortal death to access the level of divinity required to evolve. But now, we’re going through this ‘death’ while incarnate in the human body. This is a first in humanity."

"Leleākūhonua encourages us to look within, to understand our spiritual side and human side. She encourages us to look beyond the veils of illusion, and find the divine within;  the ‘me and you’ is the ‘divine self and ego self’ within. Being willing to understand the ‘cosmic dance’ and the ‘Interconnectedness and Oneness of All That Is’ is where we bring together the two worlds and learn to be ‘galactic citizens’ (Pam Gregory), pure human (Gregg Bradon), or the new human (Lee Harris)."

The new born Kolea chicks are walking around and feeding within the first day, so they are independent. But the migration is a group effort with all the birds flying in a V shape to minimise wind drag, and all gradually rotating to the front, so that everyone has a turn doing the hard work of leading. So Leleakuhonua teaches us to be both independent and interdependent at the same time.

So with the quintile to Pluto over the next few months, practice your independence as you embrace the interdependence that you discover as you step back and take the long view. We are each part of a bigger work, a bigger change or migration and we each have our part to play in that soul-field mission.

Sue Kientz from the NCGR research group, and author of the seminal book More Plutos, cites a scientific study that found that birds who make such epic journeys, have something that happens to them on the cellular level, that gives them the energy they need to sustain all that activity with no rest. This cellular change seems to be triggered by seasonal change.

"But we humans aren't so bound by seasons" she points out, "and perhaps other cues from the solar system kick off our abilities to make such great efforts, not just physical journeys but endurance for other projects, emotional fortitude to care for a relative over long illness or physical challenge, or just a very long effort to find an answer, a cure, reveal a mystery of science or mystical insight."

To orient themselves during their big quest the birds can see magnetic fields, they can see infrared and ultraviolet light, and they can also see the Earth’s meridian lines, so Leleakuhonua talks about the extra sensory perception that enables us to orient ourselves and complete our reflected-soul mission successfully.

So over the next few months you might be able to see beyond the normal  limitations, both your own and those of the people around you. By trusting in your instincts and being open to new ways of perceiving, you can connect with a unified soul-field and develop your multidimensional consciousness.
