The Astrology of Haumea

This is the first of a series of textbooks on the astrology of the new dwarf planets, based on the research at the Dwarf Planet University.

Probably the most valuable section is the house interpretations, looking at how Haumea manifests in our daily lives with example case studies.

There is also a workbook to locate and on-board this new energy in your chart. And a section introducing each of the dwarf planets to put Haumea in context.

Venus semi-sextile Quaoar

I hope you are enjoying today's Neptune stationary direct. Transiting Neptune represents our developing spiritual consciousness and during the retrograde we've been re-examining our beliefs as we've see them manifesting in the world around us. During this time Neptune has stepped back from the fiery dreams of Aries, into the watery dreams of Pisces, so now we're having a last communion with our spiritual community, as we start moving forward to begin fighting for our dreams and visions again.

Meanwhile Quaoar, our new planet of spiritual practise, at 10 degrees of Capricorn, is semi-sextile Venus. So this is a good time to work with any practice that you may have to bring spirit into your physical life, into your body. And remember, anything can be a practise that enriches your life with spirit. We see this from the Sabian Symbol for Quaoar's discovery degree, 11 degrees Sagittarius, which is:

In the Left Section of an Archaic Temple, A Lamp Burns in a Container Shaped like a Human Body. Dane Rudhyar says that the keynote here is: The value of the "return to the body" advocated by modern thinkers in order to balance the stress on intellectuality and objective consciousness.

And Lynda Hill: Sometimes we need to remember to be ‘in our bodies’ and this shows the rewards that can come from regarding our body as our temple. There’s a need to sleep and exercise when we need to, to eat when we need to; to be alive and happy. Connecting the left and right sides. Yoga. Grounding reality. Working out. Sexuality. Realizing that body and spirit are one.

Mercury is also semi-square Quaoar today, so we may be challenged to defend our spiritual practice in some way, or to tell our spirit-story. In the myth, Quaoar sings and dances the world into existence, so the planet represents the song and dance that we tell ourselves about our lives. Our unique song and dance is a spirit-story which underpins who we are.

Quaoar's semi-sextile to Venus brings value to our spirit-story and enables us to reach out in our relationships and involve our friends in our practice. As we do this, we have to be careful that self involvement doesn't blind us to the bigger picture or to others’ points of view, because then our wins are likely to come at a cost to others. We don't want to get so caught up in our own spirit story that we become insensitive to others.

The other danger, when we are experiencing this energy unconsciously, is that we won’t be present in the moment, so we won’t have all the information we need for our story to be successful. Instead, as we do the song and dance of our lives, we snarl ourselves up in chaos through our lack of insight and thereby turn our lives into a soap opera. When our spirit-story is a soap opera, the drama is just as real, but without the connection to spirit that gives it meaning.

So if, under this semi-square to Mercury, you are experiencing your spirit-story as a soap opera, I encourage you to find a practice to bring spirit somewhere into that opera, so it becomes creative and inspiring. Something in the opera can be turned into a practice… or you can just make the time for a yoga class… It doesn’t take much to turn a soap opera into something deep and meaningful.

As we develop spiritually, we learn to embrace a spirit of discovery in our interactions and to see the sacredness in each moment. At this level, you might find that the semi-sextile to Venus means that in the next couple of days you can allow a lightness or a playfulness, which enables you to bring together people and energy, and gives you an ability to weave them into a new togetherness.

At the top level Quaoar enables us to experience the song and dance of spirit in everything, and we understand that we are part of a rich chorus of spirit which underpins the physical world. We learn to see both the bigger spirit-story that humanity is telling, and the part we’re playing in that story. This allows us to manifest spirit as required to bring order out of chaos and create harmony in our lives.
