The Astrology of Haumea

This is the first of a series of textbooks on the astrology of the new dwarf planets, based on the research at the Dwarf Planet University.

Probably the most valuable section is the house interpretations, looking at how Haumea manifests in our daily lives with example case studies.

There is also a workbook to locate and on-board this new energy in your chart. And a section introducing each of the dwarf planets to put Haumea in context.

Gonggong quintile Node

I hope you are enjoying today’s Venus trine Jupiter. There is probably no happier transit than this one, so spread your wings and make the most of it. Our third largest dwarf planet, Gonggong, who is a wizard of empathy, is also quintile theNorth Node today. So we've got an opportunity to work closely with others to bring spirit into our empathic communication, thereby enabling our destiny.

Gonggong is currently around 5 degrees of Pisces. He's a slow mover, so if you are born between 1938 and 2007 you have him in Aquarius. Gonggong is compassionate, sensitive, and empathetic at the top level, and able to work both intellectually and emotionally at the same time.

However, he is a bit of an enfant terrible at the unconscious level, sensing the emotional power available, but without the awareness to direct it. At this level he can be a selfish, zealous, somewhat irascible energy, encouraging fits of rage followed by a sense of shame.

Gonggong Myth

Gonggong is the God of Water in ancient Chinese mythology. In one version of the myth, he is a hero who tamed the floods. He was born in the Yangtze River and had the face of a human but the body of a snake and red hair. He is so intricately connected with rivers that he kept records of all waters, travelled along their courses and gave them names.

Another version tells us he was not happy with the rigid hierarchical order. Despite his raw power, his job in the courts of heaven was to fill out tedious paperwork. So, he rebelled against the Jade Emperor and, in order to usurp control of heaven, he unleashed terrible floods and allied with a wicked nine-headed demon named Xiangliu.

Together they brought about great destruction in the world and the tumult they unleashed killed countless people. But, despite the suffering they caused, the two could not defeat the powers of heaven.

Infuriated and unwilling to accept such shame, Gonggong hurled himself into Mount Buzhou, a mythical mountain which was one of the principal supports of heaven.Part of the mountain collapsed, and this is the reason that all the rivers in China flow from west to east.

Incorrect Assumptions

So, at the unconscious level Gonggong talks about being ambitious, cruel, and vain. About being lost in detail, jealous of others and either full of fury as a result, or at the mercy of emotional pressure. At this level, unwilling to accept shame, we may choose to bring the whole temple down with us when we feel we are losing.

Our assumptions are crucial at this unconscious level, as it is the incorrect ones that will lead to problems. At this level we could be working against ourselves, striving for closeness, while at the same time using distance and aloofness to keep ourselves safe.

Floods of Insight

Once we get on the spiritual path the myth suggests we can develop the ability to channel our emotions and mould our psychic space to improve our productivity. At this level we can develop a leadership role in these areas through experiential analysis. We can bring a tenacious focus to issues in our lives and learn to calibrate our emotional pressure to meet the needs in each moment.

While at the outer transpersonal level, this can lead to watershed ideas that generate floods of insight. At this level we can nurture the emotional and psychic bonds between us. We can magically stir the waters to foster connections, with an ability to manage any flow or overflow that may result. At this level we can experience watershed moments where one release empowers a flood of downstream activity.
