Saturn square Varda

I hope you have been enjoying the square we’ve been having this past month between Varda, our new planet of inspiration consciousness, at 28 degrees Sagittarius, and retrograde Saturn in Pisces. Varda is the interactive struggle we have with our opponents, or with the dark forces in the world, which we win by being inspiring and hopeful, and by creating light in the dark times and places.
So you may have been discovering the light in your life over this past month, or you could have been shining your light in the world. However you might also have been forced to walk away from previous associations and possibly even from betrayals and, if so, you will now be looking towards new horizons and starting fresh elsewhere.
Varda is the much loved Lady of the Stars, the Star Kindler in Tolkien's fictional mythology from the Lord of the Rings. She inspired her people with light and hope when the Dark Lord took over the Middle Earth, and she led the Elves away from danger and through a transition to a new safer home. So, at the top level, she gives us the ability to inspire others and lead them through a transition to a new state of being.

So if you have found over this past month that you have been strategically winning the battles against the dark forces in your life by being hopeful and by leading through inspiration, then you have been embracing the higher more spiritual level of Varda.
If you've been operating at the unconscious level, however, you might have been living in a rich fantasy world this past month, a world which has worked fine for you, but which has little contact with reality. Or you might have been forced to indulge in strategic games, arguments or competitions just to survive.
And we have to remember that in the myth she is at the receiving end of a win-at-all-cost battle to be controlled and dominated by an overlord. So Varda does carry themes of sudden massive collapse and death of the old way, having to walk away from previous associations and betrayals, then look towards new horizons, and start fresh elsewhere.
When we do, her stars serve as a beacon of hope and resistance against the forces of evil. And she has a reputation as a divine protector who watches over us with benevolence, giving comfort and courage to the free peoples of Middle-earth. Her light is seen as a guide through times of darkness and despair.
So if you have walked away from previous associations over this past month, but have not yet started afresh, your opportunity will come early next year. The Saturn square to Varda will occur again in February, as I'll explain in a moment, so you'll get another chance then to transition to a new state of being and start afresh.
Varda has similar qualities to the Iberian Mother Mary archetype of pagan Christian myth who regularly appears to pilgrims lost in the fog, lost in the night. Mary carries a lantern, which is most reassuring to lost pilgrims on a dangerous road, and guides them to safety through the dark of the night.
So, as we develop spiritually, Varda brings light to the long nights we might experience, offering hope, and her constellations provide a map or guidance to support us on the path of transformation. At this level, she enables us to navigate the “dark night of the soul” or any other “dark” confusing time.
So if you have been navigating a dark or confusing time this past month, you need to trust in the inspiration and light that you do find in your life. Look for it, it's always there, even though it might seem to be smothered by the darkness. You can also kindle light in your life by what you do, and by embracing the power of hope in your approach to the future.
The Saturn square to Varda will occur again as Saturn turns direct and ingresses Aires in February next year, just as Varda ingresses Capricorn. If this past month has seen you walk away from past associations, or forced you to navigate a dark and confusing time, you will have the opportunity early next year to transition to a new state of being and to start afresh.
If you have been strategically winning the battles against the dark forces in your life this month by being hopeful and by leading through inspiration, you will have another opportunity to do this early next year with Varda in the practical and social sign of Capricorn. The square at that time from dynamic Saturn in Aries might also enable you to lead others through their transition to a new state of being.

UK & US Live Workshops 2026
We are front-loading the courses at the Uni in the early part of next year, with three in each of the first two course brackets. First up we have Varda, Ixion and Quaoar. We're doing this because I'm lightning my teaching load during the northern hemisphere summer, as I will be travelling and teaching some live Dwarf Planet Workshops in the UK in June, and the US in August and September.
The Uni will also be running a stall in the trade show at the United Astrology Conference in Chicago in September. And this front-loading means that there will be less course places available later in the year, so I encourage you to jump into one of the deals on these early courses to make the most of your consciousness adventure next year.
Join us if you can on Varda and thanks for your work embracing these new aspects of consciousness.
Love and laughter
