The Astrology of Haumea

This is the first of a series of textbooks on the astrology of the new dwarf planets, based on the research at the Dwarf Planet University.

Probably the most valuable section is the house interpretations, looking at how Haumea manifests in our daily lives with example case studies.

There is also a workbook to locate and on-board this new energy in your chart. And a section introducing each of the dwarf planets to put Haumea in context.

Haumea in the Signs

Updated: Aug 6, 2022

Let's look at Haumea through the signs, so we can understand the psychic-unity of this higher octave of Neptune and Venus on a more personal level. A higher octave expresses the energy of an inner planet at a more spiritual level. So Haumea talks about values like Venus and faith like Neptune, but she works at the level of the psychic unity of humankind across time and space.

So how do we experience that on a personal level? Well that of course depends on the sign and house in which our Haumea is placed and her aspects to our other planets.

Haumea in Leo

Those born after 1927 and before 1960 have Haumea in Leo. Nurturing our spirit and growing through that process is very important to those of us with this placement. In any sign Haumea can represent a violent rebirth where everything is transformed in an instant and those of us born with it in the proud fire sign of Leo need to channel that potentially explosive power constructively.

If we are born in the later half of that time, from 1945 to 1960, we have a Pluto Haumea conjunction. I am one of these people and, while traditionally Pluto is seen as representing both death and rebirth, I would posit that he is more about the death which makes space for a rebirth and it is the spiritual renewal that Haumea brings which breaths life into that new birth.

So those born with this conjunction have a unique role to play in birthing the new psychic unity that is beginning to be possible as we incorporate Haumean energy into our consciousness now that the planet has been discovered. The house position will show in what area of life this transformational renewal conjunction will operate. Mine is in my 8th house, and I think we'd all agree that I do bring a transformational renewal energy to occult matters with my work here at the Uni.

Noted financial astrologer, Christeen Skinner, linked this conjunction in her recent article in the NCGR Journal to the desire to create a lasting legacy, and stated that this became a major theme for her and her friends as Haumea transited sextile to their natal conjunctions, which is the transit that is currently underway for this generation.

Haumea in Virgo

If you are born between1960 and 1993 you have Haumea in Virgo. This placement brings out the Earth goddess side of Haumea, rather than the fire goddess, so with this placement we tend to be calm and peaceful, seeking a natural harmony and ongoing rejuvenation in all aspects of our lives if the planet is well placed, or struggling with allowing that regeneration, if it is not.

Haumea in Libra

Those born after 1993 have Haumea in Libra. This is a sign that seeks to realign the balance in relationship between people, nations, religions and the earth, so with this placement we will bring a never ending source of energy to this balancing process and will continuously strive for the welfare of ourselves and our loved ones.

Haumea in Scorpio

Moving from Natal to Mundane, Haumea will go into Scorpio at the end of next year in the midst of the sequence of squares with Pluto that I talked about in the last blog post. With this transit the emotional water element will nurture Haumea's earth-goddess side, but her fire-goddess nature will be steaming the place up at the same time. This hot house environment is likely to stimulate and potentially radicalise the climate action movement, and the squares with Pluto which usher in this period are likely paving the way for more radical action in this space.

Haumea 101 - Onboarding the Cosmic Energies

And finally just to mention that what the students are loving on the Dwarf Planet University courses is the onboarding of the cosmic energy that occurs as we explore the house, aspects and transits of each of these new planets in our personal lives. Onboarding is a virtual reality term for the process required to orient yourself in a new environment. And the discovery of so many new planets in the last a few years - and these are planets, not asteroids - tells us we are in just such a new environment at the moment.

So if you would like to onboard your psychic connection with the spirit of life, you might like to try my new Haumea 101 course starting in October.

Hello, I just discovered Haumea and am interested in understanding the placement in my birth chart. I'm glad I found your article because it has been difficult to find more information about this. Could you possibly explain to me what it means to have my Haumea in Virgo Square to my Ascendant in Sagittarius, Venus in Sagittarius, Moon in Sagittarius and Uranus in Capricorn?

Hi, Good to hear from you. For a more precise interpretation, please let me know the house in which Haumea is placed in your chart, and how big the orb is on the square with each of the ASC, Venus, Moon, and Uranus... But in general you will have your Haumea in the sky above you when you were born, so you are playing a regenerative role in society and you in turn get psychic nourishment from those social contacts... the square to the ASC is a challenge for you to find a way to interact with the world - a way to behave - that facilitates the social and personal regeneration that you are working on... The square to…

I just recently discovered your site and work - wonderful articles! Thank you! I wonder, how big orbs do you use for Haumea? In my birth chart Haumea is at 21.24 Virgo, Sun at 19.29 Gemini and Moon at 20.35 Pisces - are they making a T-square? I feel very drawn to the concept of Haumea, could this be because of the connection to Sun and Moon? Can I consider myself to be a bit Haumean?
